Sitting down for this week’s Thursday Movie Picks is actually making me anxious. Television Edition usually comes to me with a certain amount of ease but not this week. I cannot for the life of me remember any show that is a prequel. Yes, I know there are some, probably even a bunch but I can’t think of any. The problem of the prequel theme is that I have not seen them. So let’s see how this one turned out, shall we?

Explanation continues: There are, according to Wikipedia (the all mighty collector of knowledge), that there are 50 television shows that are considered prequels. That is not a lot considering many are from 70s and 80s which basically crosses them instantly out. So, I was perplexed about this week for… weeks really. But today I feel a bit brave so I’m flipping this whole thing onto its head. Much like Tenet, I’m gonna play around with the concept of time.

Basically I’m gonna imagine that this is the future and these prequels, that do not exist in the present time, will be made at some point. In other words, I’m gonna list a bunch of shows that deserve a mini-series prequel based on my own personal needs.

3. JESS: THE MISSING YEARS – prequel to GILMORE GIRLS: A YEAR IN THE LIFE

So the last four episodes for Gilmore Girls was complete bullshit and your girl needs redemption. The only thing that I care about at this point is Jess Mariano. Just imagine Milo Ventimiglia coming back for one last time as Jess and showing us what he has been up to between the show and the revival. He looked so good in the revival! I want more of him, I want to see him grow as a person. Grow into a writer, a man. And yes, I just basically just want to lust after Milo, so what? I’m lonely… probably staying lonely until this imaginary future is taking place.

2. RICH TO SCHITT$ – prequel toSCHITT$ CREEK

I know it would not have the comfort of the small town and the juxtaposition of rich vs poor but… I just want to meet the Rose family when they were rich. Just a few episodes, maybe just four, each focusing on a different family member. It would be a nice throwback and a great way to come back again without compromising the actual show. Plus I really want to see one of those Alexa adventures she kept mentioning! And then the four episode prequel can go straight into the show itself. I mean, doesn’t that sound amazing?!

1. DADDY WINCHESTER – prequel to SUPERNATURAL

Yes, I know that Supernatural has about a hundred seasons by now but we really need more backstory to Daddy Winchester. It could even be called as such. But just a six or seven episode show where Jeffrey Dean Morgan look alike just fills in the blanks of the timeline. This could have already happened by the way, I’m honestly unaware what the show is doing but I would go back for daddy Winchester. It could be a nice… addition the collection of those hundred seasons they’ve made. Or you know, something that takes place in the same universe but before. Fear of the Walking Dead type of situation with bunch of JDM type hot daddies fighting urban legends… Can you guys tell I’m lonely? Well… yeah. Anyway, a girl can dream, eh!?

  • Ooooh, I love the idea of all of these!!! Jess deserves some kind of deep dive into those years we know nothing about. He has always been a fascinating character. More Schitt’s Creek content is always welcome in my book and Daddy Winchester – sure! There’s enough people who’d happily tune into any sort of Supernatural related content.

    • I know right! I mean all of these sounds so good, who should I call, who should I tweet… somebody needs to make these! 😀

  • I love Schitt’s Creek and I like how you interpreted this week’s theme. Schitt’s Creek is so funny. Of course, you get to lust after men. If Hugh Jackman or Viggo Mortensen dropped by for a chat, I would be tempted to climb them like a tree even though I am happily married.

    • Yes, Schitt’s Creek is… amazing! And thank you, I truly had no prequels to mention. 😀
And thank you for the approval of lusting, I shall continue!

  • I love this! I’ve been slacking with TMP and I know this one would have threw me for a loop. The fun twist you pulled is really imaginative!
