400th blog post celebration

400 might not be an important number to some but for me it actually is somewhat special. I have been waiting for it for quite some time now actually, the big round number of 400. Seeing the number getting closer and closer just made me realize that I’m almost at 500, then, soon I will be a 1000 and then.. I don’t know. Okay, I might me exaggerating because getting to 400 has taken me almost three years. On this rate, it will take me forever to get there but I’m ready for the ride, it’s been so fun so far! As the number got closer, I thought why not celebrate it with something special since I haven’t done it with my other hundred posts. Plus, I had a lot of time with all my school work, deadlines, additional obligations and an up-coming trip… Kidding but I still had a lot of fun putting the alphabet together, had some issues with couple of letters because some didn’t have enough options, some had too many. To be fair, a lot of my favorites were left out but overall, I think it worked out well. It consists of movies, directors, actors and actresses who’s lives revolve around movies.

# 258 – Top 7 of 2011 (Extra special)

As it turned out, most of my rating system came crashing down when I discovered that I like to give the grade 4 a lot – too much to be honest. So I am already thinking something new and better for next year. But I did get the top 3 with no difficulties and the rest of the list came down to how memorable the movie was. So here it is, top 7 of 2011 – my favorite movies!

#7 Melancholia

Although I had mixed feelings about the ending of the movie, I still remember the amazing cinematography (by Manuel Alberto Claro) and the greatness of the first part of the movie.  Besides, even though I did not enjoy the ending, it is definitely memorable and an image that I can not delete from my mind.

#6 What’s Your Number?

This place shocks me as much as it might shock you. The movie is not that great, it is not the best of the best this year but it sure is best among Chris Evans’ performances – for me at least.  Although, the movie is memorable as well, I mean the basketball scene is not a typical romantic comedy highlight but I think that this is the reason why I keep having those .. never mind.

#5 50/50

This Joseph Gordon-Levitt movie was definitely one of my favorite experiences this year and a well deserved place belongs to this dramatic comedy. I think the movie just gets to you although it is so simple and down to Earth in a way. Gonna watch it again for sure.

#4 Never Let Me Go

This, in some what, alter-world plot is definitely memorable. But this novel-based installment was made perfect with a young cast including this year’s big hit Andrew Garfield. The movie was sad and to be honest, it is the saddest among this list – but sometimes it is good to cry on a Friday night when you don’t feel like going out.

#3 Horrible Bosses

Now comes the surprising part – I have two comedies in my top 3 and the first one is no other than star-filled Horrible Bosses. I have a feeling that it is one of my favorites this year due to the interesting cast choices but probably the most because Charlie Day is brilliant in every scene he is in!

# 2 Crazy Stupid Love

This is no surprise that Ryan Gosling together with Emma Stone and Steve Carell made me so happy when I watched this movie that I still smile secretly when I recall the best moments. Funny, gets to you emotionally and is just a great entertainment for friends and family. Going to my “watch the second time” list right now!

#1 The King’s Speech

Taking the highest price is the first Oscar moment for Colin Firth and the inspiring tale of the king who found a friend in the oddest place. I have no doubt in my mind that this will remain in my list of favorites, it will sure have some competition for the first place (I hope so) but nobody can’t push Firth out of my top 10. He is and will be my favorite of 2011 – just because!

So, this is it, this was 2011 and there is nothing else to say but:

Enjoy the last moments of this year as enthusiastically as you can and enjoy the next one even more that this one! See you next year!

# 235 – What’s Your Number

Going to the movies is something I do with movies I really want to see, What’s Your Number was one of those movies I really-really wanted to see. Not only because of Chris Evans who happened to hate clothes in this particular movie but because it seemed really nice and realistic (as realistic as a rom-com goes). After watching it I’m just gonna say that it was a bit cheesy at times and the end would’ve been too cheesy as well if it weren’t for that one line that sort of mocked the romantic comedy genre and basically saved the end.

Anna Faris for me was always the dumb blonde – House Bunny would be the example of what I am talking about when I say “dumb blonde”. What’s Your Number was a smarter role for her and I hope she gets more of those after this one. She was sweet and funny and sexy – not like scary sexy that she does a lot but hot sexy. Next to Chris Evans though, sorry Anna, but my eyes went straight for the captain. He is really popular lately, which is awesome cause I never understood why he didn’t get his big screen roles. His character in this movie was pretty much the slutty-guy-neighbor who helps Anna out with her man quest which brings me to the story.

Anna Faris plays Ally Darling, a young woman who has let to many men enter her “bedroom” and is now faced with an article that says: once you go 20 you never get married. She, determined to find all her exes cause one of them has to be the ONE, gets help from Colin Shea (Evans) who somehow knows how to do background checks. Zachary Quinto, Joel McHale, Martin Freeman, Andy Samberg and Dave Annable are just few of her exes that meet us on the screen. One of the exes who gets the oportuinity to be on a screen a lot is Chris Pratt – he is actually married to Faris (a fact that I keep forgetting).

So the story it self is again typical but I liked how it all played out and I thought Anna and Chris were great. Was there a lot of chemistry and unbearable tension between them, maybe not  all the time but to be honest, Anna likes the other Chris (Pratt) so I bet it was hard to concentrate on Evans six-back (or was it eight – should watch the movie again to be sure) that should have been on the poster of the movie. 5,6 on IMDb is pretty solid, I’m giving it a 4 out of 5 which is a record (it seems) cause I like both the leads and they kept it cool the entire time.

“Oh, what’s that Chris, you want me to watch the movie again? Aye aye, captain!”

# 179 – What Might Be Good (trailer special)

It has been a while since I’ve done a decent trailer post where I gather some of the latest trailers and decide based on those trailers if I want to see the movie and how good of a movie it might be. As it turns out, there aren’t many trailers (except those who stand out immediately and get a post right away like Horrible Bosses did) that catch my eye but since I’m very behind on my posting and all the recent posts are shallow and not my best (since I don’t remember the movies I’ve watched lately) I try to make this one a little more close to my standards.

Starting off with something easy, Monte Carlo is another teen comedy/romance starring Selena Gomez (who actually is gorgeous in my opinion), Leighton Meester and Katie Cassidy. Looks like another Lizzie McGuire movie but I hope it’s a little better because Selena is a much better actress than Hilary! Besides, there are two other strong actresses (maybe not strong but familiar) who might bring in a lot of people. Selena might loose some fans because she is the girlfriend of the boy who’s name I won’t name in my blog, but the plot looks promising as an okay rom-com (2 out of 5 probably).

As we started with a rom-com we might as well continue with one, What’s Your Number? is probably the most promising romantic comedy next to Friends With Benefits. Anna Faris who usually comes off as uncomfortable looks really sweet here and Chris Evans (who I want to see in Capten America) looks hot as hell. Besides that, Anna Faris’ exes seem to be quite familiar names, like Zachary Quinto  and Andy Samberg who I both love, making this a very well filled (name wise) movie.

Switching from romance to action, Columbiana is about a woman who seeks revenge and probably will get it. Zoe Saldana who has come a long way since the Crossroads (a movie with Britney Spears where I saw her for the first time) looks absolutely bad ass in this one the plot seems average though, the usual hero movie.

Back to comedy and reality, because Conan O’Brian has a documentary Can’t Stop coming out – of the time he was off the air and touring the states being as funny as usual.

Thanks to Happy Feet 2 we have some music in this post as well, the trailer doesn’t give any information but its entertaining and I hope the movie is as well – for the kids, you know!

Do be honest, I still haven’t watched Harry Potter (since the 5th movie) so I haven’t really watched the trailer of the Deathly Hallows part 2 but I’m still posting this because I will watch this in the movies! I just have to re-read the books and watch it all the way through and make probably a post about it and then.. celebrate with all the other Harry Potter fans.

From the famous wizard to the famous X-Men  – their franchise has come up with the next movie, this one being the sort of a beginning of the entire story: First Class. The list of names in this one is just mind blowing and I’m just gonna name them and not say anything else: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon and Nicholas Hoult to name a few.

Another action packed film that is gonna be in my DVD collection is the newest J.J Abrams movie – Super 8. At the moment I’m watching Fringe (also Abrams) and waiting the Star Trek 2 but I would love to enjoy Super 8 as well. Looks like a decent movie and little Elle Fanning looks all grown up as well.

[youtube=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCRQQCKS7go”]

Getting more serious with a dramatic romance starring Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum  The Vow looks like another Notebook with guaranteed tears from the ladies as well as from me. I would watch this to be honest – and Channing is hot! (PS: one of the writers is the developer of Parenthood and that is very promising!)

[youtube=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVaE1WoYROc”]

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is a great book, I should know I read it and I even scrolled through the Sweden version of the film that had some really bad casting (the lead was horrible). USA version with Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara looks better only with the casting and probably will be better (due to money of course). The trailer is well made (gives away too much in my opinion) but the music gives it the thrilling feel that I love.

[youtube=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yUwXwrR35U”]

Because I love Emma Stone, I’m probably gonna watch this movie The Help as well (mostly because of Emma though). It looks like a rather interesting drama but the accents are throwing me off at the moment (can’t stop laughing). All though, it looks like a movie with heart and well, coming over the racial differences is something that I really enjoy in a movie.

Last but not least, my favorite guy in a comedy about a guy who finds out he has cancer. 50/50 starring with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen is a must watch movie! And is a good trailer to end this post with.

[youtube=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30q67dlj8mo”]

This concludes my special trailer post of movies I’m waiting and probably gonna watch as well, looks like it’s going to be a busy year for me – too bad my new living arrangements don’t give me an opportunity to go to the cinema – oh lord, what am I going to do!?
