What a coincidence that not only can I pick movies suitable for a summer vacation but that I myself am currently on my summer vacation? It feels like it’s meant to be, and that this list should be epic because of this situation. It’s not epic but it’s pretty good! Also, as you’ve noticed, I’ve looked passed the idea of picking movies that feature people on their summer vacation, and set my sights on adventures and thrilling movies that I love to enjoy during my summer vacation!
The time has come for another television recommendation post and this one has me in a pickle because I desperately want to avoid recommending Grey’s Anatomy. Like, sure, I could say that the first half of that show was good, but looking back, I dislike the show for all its melodrama and I don’t want anything to do with it this week. Also, I don’t really want to be stuck with the “drama” part because I have a comedic pick for this week that I have wanted to mention so many times now, and I don’t want to miss this chance!
PS: I haven’t seen enough of ER to mention it here either. It ran on TV when I was a kid so I caught a few episodes here and there but to say I watched an entire season would be lying. So.. not mentioning that one either.
This week’s theme was a bit of a challenge for me because the first few movies I came up with, I’ve already mentioned. That does not mean these three picks are in some way secondary by any means, because all three are pretty decent movies which came to mind when I thought about the trees.
I hereby want to quote that famous Gwen Stefani song Hollaback to describe my feelings about this week’s theme: “this my sh*t, this my sh*t!” And that says it all really, because a movie based on true events is just the kind of sh*t I go for, and I love these types of movies a lot. Also, I’m hereby breaking my own special rule of not re-mentioning movies because I can’t help myself. I have to do it!
Another Thursday has rolled around and it has come to my realisation that the themes are becoming trickier as the year goes on. It’s not because the topics are difficult, it’s that I don’t want to repeat movies but it’s hard not to, when you want to praise the good ones over and over again. So it’s with a heavy heart that I blast out not 3 but 6 good movies in this one, recommending quite many of my favourites all at once!
Not gonna lie, this week’s theme had me a bit flustered because what the actual hell – tall buildings? At first I was completely lost, and to be honest, I’m still a little lost but I think I have three movies that sort of represent tall buildings. Like, I would have loved to include movies that focus solely on tall buildings but I just, these movies have just epic scenes featuring tall buildings – that’s all I got, guys, sorry!
Another last Thursday of the month and it means it’s time for some television recommendations – the post I love the most even though I sometimes struggle with the theme. This time around the theme was time travel, which turned out to be quite a good one for me. Especially considering the fact that all these shows in my list are really really good in my opinion. And surprise surprise, I actually managed to list four shows this week because there was a time when a lot of time travel was happening on TV, and because I could not not mention any of these.
Here we go again with the time period theme which I won’t excel at ever! It’s not that I hate these types of themes, it’s just I suck at them, which I guess means I don’t really like period movies in general. But for this one, I still managed to scrape together three recommendations, though it was a close call. Especially since one of the picks is almost forgotten for me and all I can remember is that I think I enjoyed it years ago.
Not sure how everyone else goes into making Thursday Movie Picks lists but I do it by heart. I don’t look through any sort of online lists, exceptions being those period-themes which I suck at, and only rarely do I look at my own Letterboxd list. So most of my movie recommendations are listed from memory and so here are three completely different desert movies I thought of.
This week’s theme is kind of a difficult one to crack because two of my recommendations are, for the lack of a better word, spoilers. Like, if I would have known beforehand that these movies will feature clones or dopplegängers, I would have been less surprised and therefore I would have, most likely, missed out on the most important moment. Though one of my examples has a very spoiler-esque trailer, which I luckily avoided, so technically the movie makers themselves flushed that “moment” down the toilet themselves. But enough chit-chat, you have been warned, spoilers ahead, continue at your own risk. And I’m sorry for putting together such a spoilery list.
