It feels like yesterday I sat down to write a Thursday Movie Picks post and here we are again. This week though we are looking at television shows and recommending ones that fall under the book adaptations theme. Honestly, it’s a bit of a difficult one for me because I’d gladly recommend ones I’ve read the book for. But I haven’t read any books that have been adapted to shows lately or.. not a lot at all. But let’s try to find a different theme within a theme, okay? Maybe even a bit more since all the book adaptations I picked here became miniseries in 2020. PS: Don’t forget to look at my worst book to movie adaptations post.
Of course I’m in the middle of my summer break when this theme comes up! What a perfect coincidence. Anyway I have not much to tell… here are my three movies that feature a summer break. They are not the best but they shall do because I honestly don’t have a lot of good movies left at this point. Oh and yes, they all fit into a specific genre because of course.
We are back again with the non-English language movies which is a yearly theme. I started to participate in TMP and I struggled with this theme. I’ve gotten so much better over the years though. I’ve watched more non-English movies and shows these past few years and it’s actually easier to pick. That being said, my movie watching has taken a huge dive into almost nothing this past year so I simply don’t have a lot to choose from in the first place. Regardless I tried my best and thanks to my local film festival I actually managed to see a few non-English movies.
This week’s theme is a little ironic. They just announced the olympics will be held without an audience due to this THING wrecking the world. Shame really but also understandable. Yet I shall try not to make this into something it’s not supposed to be. I mean I’m supposed to talk about female athletes… in movies. But because I’m a sucker for a theme within a theme I’m going with the documentary route today. All these documentaries are from 2020.
Some of you might have noticed that I skipped last week’s post. It was the first in… years that I just didn’t even start a draft for. I don’t know what happened. But I’m back on track this week with another Oscar Winners Edition. This week we’re looking into Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effects. Again I tried to find a theme within a theme as it has become my thing.
PS: The fact that in the entire Academy Award history no female cinematographer has won this category is giving me hives right now. Honestly… complete disbelief.
I’m on time! Last week was really hectic for me so I ended up posting my Thursday post on a Saturday instead. Whoops. You can find it here, I thought I was being really clever with that theme and it seems nobody has read it. That’s what I get on being so late. Anyway this week it’s about natural disasters but I went with the sci-fi theme here so I guess it’s more of an Earth disaster list instead. I hope you enjoy.
No you are not losing your mind, it really isn’t Thursday.. I’m just very late. This week was weird and I just didn’t have the time to write up the post. Worst book to movie adaptations have been on my mind all week though so I figured I’ll post a bit later. It’s the first time I’m so late to post my Thursday Movie Picks but I didn’t want to make it my first ever skip in years either. Anyway, here are my picks for worst book to movie adaptations. And as always, I’ve added my little twist and made it a theme within a theme.
Can’t believe it’s already June!? I feel like I haven’t accomplished anything this year and most of it is already over. Anyway, at least I have been keeping up with my Thursday posts which are back with the Oscar Winners Edition special. This week we are looking into Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplays. Now you know me, I like to pick a theme within the theme, so I right away wanted to pick one of them as the main focus. Also it’s getting a little late here so I won’t be saying much about the movies this week.
Bringing you some globetrotting television shows this week. The idea is that the show is scripted, so non-reality, non-travel and non-docu series. Limiting it to scripted did out a wall up for me but I think we got there in the end. Also, how is it at the end of May already? Gosh. It feels like just yesterday it was April and now we’re almost in June. I wanna say time flies but at the same time I have done nothing so… it feels more like it’s passing by and I’m just unaware of it. Anyway, on to my globetrotting picks.
As a fan of sci-fi movies I have seen a fair number of cyberpunk movies as well. I did have to check the meaning a little because I did get a tiny bit confused. For those who are also confused, cyberpunk is a genre of science fiction set in a lawless subculture of an oppressive society dominated by computer technology. Basically a lot of movies under the sci-fi umbrella. Anyway as per usual I stuck with a theme within a theme with this one AND watched two movies for this week for the first time.
