Thursday Movie Picks: Amateur Sleuths

Not necessarily leaving it to the last minute but sort of. (I really need to start planning these things ahead of time). So I was a bit stumped by this theme this week because honestly, I’m not very sure how many amateur sleuths movies I know. Probably more that I can think of but apparently not enough to conjure a proper list. Because of this today’s list will be about bad amateur sleuths movies. In other words I’m recommending you stay away from these amateur sleuths if possible. Needless to say all the main characters are amateur sleuthing.

Thursday Movie Picks Oscar Winners Edition: Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress

The titles for these Thursday Movie Picks seem to get longer and longer but I’m not really complaining. It’s just a little ironic. Ironic because yet again I’m only going to talk about two performances. One for Best Supporting Actor and one for Best Supporting Actress. Both these wins are pretty recent so I can easily talk about them. As per usual I left my post writing to the very last minute (add some work scheduling mishap on top of that) and it’s an hour until deadline. I guess I just like to live on the edge.

Thursday Movie Picks Television Edition: Opening Title Sequence

This week has brought me back so many wonderful memories. You see, I used to do these Intro posts where I just put images from the opening title sequence into a post. I did shows as well as movies but like many of my features I didn’t do that long. Though putting together this week’s post did make me smile in the best way possible so who knows, maybe I’ll bring that opening title sequence feature back (but don’t expect anything). Here are three opening title sequences of TV shows that I still remember for their visual appeal and song selection.

Thursday Movie Picks: Fake Identity

This week I struggled. Not because there wasn’t enough to recommend but because there was so much. I thought about so many different angles but eventually I settled on the most obvious one: conmen. This is a genre of movies that I tend to enjoy more than not. And if you add a fake identity to the mix it’s even better! Oh and in case you were wondering, this list has a few fake identity related spoilers.

Thursday Movie Picks: Movies That Haven’t Aged Well

Recommending a theme for Thursday Movie Picks and getting picked is always an honour. The ironic part is that I never prepare for the themes I recommend myself. When I recommended Movies That Haven’t Aged Well I had something in mind. Now, months later, I have no idea what I was trying to recommend. But have no fear, here are three movies that haven’t aged well in my opinion. What movies am I talking about? Well of course the ones with CGI! In the past years technology has become so advanced that some past CGI feels especially awkward. And I guess in that sense these movies that used this wonky CGI truly haven’t aged well.

Thursday Movie Picks Oscar Winners Edition: Best Actor and Best Actress

This week we are back with the Oscar Winners edition for the Thursday Movie Picks series. I am, yet again, running late with the post because I’ve overbooked myself with an article for work. This happens more often than I’d like but that’s just my own fault for not scheduling these Thursday posts. Anyway, as the theme is Best Actor and Best Actress Oscar winners, I’ve decided to do a Thursday first. I’m going to list just two performances, one from each category, that have some meaning to me. You’d think it’s easy but most of my favourite Oscar wins are actually for supporting roles so.. there was some thinking involved.

Thursday Movie Picks Television/Romance Tropes Edition: Love Triangles

As February comes to and end we have a double theme on our hands. Not just a romance tropes edition but also the television edition. This is a fabulous theme because while I dislike love triangles in general… I sort of love them in shows. There’s just this element of prolonged angst when it comes to shows that can go on for many seasons that elevate the triangle to extremes. I love that. So here I’m bringing you three love triangles in televisions shows that actually worked really well. Or at least they worked for me.

Thursday Movie Picks Romance Tropes Edition: Forbidden Love

We are back again with another Thursday Movie Picks Romance Tropes Edition. This week we are looking at forbidden love and let me tell you, I was stumped at first. There seems to be a lot of movies that fit this theme but I could not figure out the main focus. Forbidden love for me can be either just toxic or down right illegal. Or simply forbidden due to circumstances. I have chosen a theme within a theme that I feel like works the best here.

Thursday Movie Picks Romance Tropes Edition: Friends to Lovers

Did I forget? Yes. Did I still have 50 minutes of Thursday left to pen and post this? Yes. So here we go. If it feels like I’m not making sense it’s because I rushed through this like crazy. I need to start scheduling these things. Anyway we have friends to lovers trope for this weeks romance theme. Friends to lovers is not as tasty as enemies to lovers but it’s still sweet. Though again, I like the contrast more than I like the sweet progression from friends to lovers but why am I spending so much time on this when I only have 48 minutes of Thursday left. Here we go.

Thursday Movie Picks Romance Tropes Edition: Fake Relationship

This is my month! Not just in terms of it being all about romance for Thursday Movie Picks but it’s my BIRTHDAY MONTH! This year, after the hell 2020 was, I’ve decided to sort of celebrate throughout the month. Just have fun with it. I have a vacation coming up and I just hope to fully book my days with stuff I love. But I digress, we’re here for romance tropes and fake relationships! For those who do not yet know I love a fake relationship trope to hell and back. It’s fun, it’s weird and it just brings me joy. The trope itself is more common in books I feel like so picking three movies was harder but not impossible. No theme within a theme (unless you count underrated movies a theme) because there’s not a lot of fake relationship movies out there and that’s a shame.
