Hello April, let’s do this! Here is the first post of Thursday Movie Picks and it’s a fun one! This is all about unrecognisable actor transformations and for once I know all three recommendations right away. I actually have a theme for this week too because why not!?
I have always loved scrapbooks, journaling and notebooks… but from afar. Me actually completing a scrapbook or even a notebook would qualify as a miracle. Therefore I have decided to take my scrapbook dreams and apply them to my blog. For my first attempt to online scrapbook, I’ve compiled my favourite moments, captures, quotes and winners from this year’s award season!
I became a LAMB in November 2011, over a year after I started blogging to spread the word about Mettel Ray (then known as Mettel Ray Movie Blog) and to be apart of a very large community of movie bloggers. I think I was even a contributor and everything, which is why it’s actually baffling to me that I can’t remember why I stopped. Did I even give in my resignation? Did I just forget that I was a LAMB with university taking over my life? I did go through a lot of rough years with my blog during university as well, so it might have been my own personal crisis that pulled me away from that community. But that is not the point of this post! The point of this post is to talk about the upcoming Oscars, and more importantly, the Best Supporting Actor category. So I’m here to present my (maybe not so biased) list of all the fine actors nominated this year, discussing their performances and their chances of winning this year.
During the announcement for the 90th Academy Award nominees, I was luckily preoccupied with a few work things, and wasn’t paying attention. Good thing too, because the wait, the anticipation and the nerves would have been torture. And the pressure to seek out one particular nomination was also lifted, because right when I logged onto Twitter, I saw what I most wanted to see.
When I saw that my local film festival was showing The Shape of Water, I knew I was going to see it. Not because it had so much hype around it (which it had), or that it sounded like an awards contender (which it is), but because it had such an out of the box plot that I just had to see it for myself. Set in the 60’s, The Shape of Water is a love story between a woman and an amphibian man.
Without any doubt, I should have been sleeping during the time I actually wrote this post but instead, I just sat down to fangirl because that is my life now. I wake up, I go to work, I come home, shower, and I sit down at half past one to type incoherent thoughts about Frank Castle and his endless supply of grunts. [grunts passionately]
Even though I felt like crap at the end of last week, tired and stressed out, I still had a pretty successful week. I managed to watch a few movies, got further with Crazy-Ex Girlfriend, and by some miracle, and borrowing greatly from sleep, I finished three books! This week is hopefully going to be no different, except maybe more sleep and less stress.
Last year I mentioned Comic-Con in my Commercial Break but I’m upping my game this year and dedicating an entire post to it! That’s right, a post filled with stuff that was released during Comic-Con! This post will cover mostly trailer reactions, good and bad, and a few panel discussions, those of which I was the most interested in. And as it turns out I was rather interested in a lot of things, because there are 20 talking points total! Good luck!
