The month of August has come to an end and that means it is time for Hidden Gems. As some of you might remember, I skipped July and I’m only now getting back on track. I’m also making a small change in the Hidden Gems lineup. August was supposed to be Keira Knightley’s month but I’m going to be honouring Chadwick Boseman in the middle of September instead. It just.. feels like the right thing to do since a talented man was taken too soon from the world. That being said, Emma Stone for Hidden Gems was the hardest challenge to date. And as it happened, it’s also the first time where I did not finish a movie. Going in, I knew I was in for something horrible which is why I pushed it off for months. Actually watching it was much worse than I expected.
This week is a bit special since this is the theme I have recommended myself. I had just seen Marriage Story, the one with that verbal altercation aka fight where Adam Driver acting skills are out of this world. And no, I will not pick Marriage Story even though it fits perfectly. But I’m going to go with something a little bit different, and throw in a bit of eye candy like I did that week.
Since it’s February, we’re still on the love train and this week we’re bringing you some tech age love! I picked two movies last week that could fit perfectly into this week but it’s okay. I had planned this out perfectly (totally lying) and have a theme within a theme where those wouldn’t have fit anyway. So eventually, this worked out brilliantly!
It has been… well let’s just say it has been a long time since I last participated in a blogathon and I think it’s time to do one. More specifically, it’s time for Two Dollar Cinema’s Mt. Rushmore of Movies Blogathon! Here you have to choose top four anything cinematic, from 4 favourite villains to your top 4 childhood television shows, the possibilities are endless! And with such grand freedom, of course I had to carve four epic beards into my Mt. Rushmore of Movies.
We start off the year with an Oscar race that has our hearts beating erratically because this might be Leonardo DiCaprio’s year, and it was. He won, he got that Oscar, he held that Oscar, he took that Oscar with him to show off to his supermodels and polish on his yacht while the sun cast golden streaks of light onto Leo’s face. But as soon as the blockbuster movies started to roll in, as soon as the superheros began to gather, Leo was slowly forgotten.
Alright, it is time to discuss The Nice Guys. And most of my thoughts are nice, some are not so nice, but all in all, the feeling after the movie was indeed sort of nice.
There are sort of spoilers but they are still the kind one preferably wants to avoid..
Before falling asleep yesterday, I contemplated on the things I wanted to say about The Place Beyond the Pines; needless to say, I couldn’t fall asleep for almost an hour. I kept thinking about the plot, the characters, the cinematography, the soundtrack and I was endlessly wondering how will I ever manage to express all the things going through my head. In a way, I’m still wondering but at this point, pushing back this review seems impossible.
By the third part I find it very difficult to come up with any additional things to say, so for those who happen to end up here with no back story to this what so ever, check out part 1 and part 2. And yes, this is the third consecutive day I’m posting a TOP 10 list – and no, this won’t be the last, two more are coming after the weekend, so the end is near, bare with me.
400 might not be an important number to some but for me it actually is somewhat special. I have been waiting for it for quite some time now actually, the big round number of 400. Seeing the number getting closer and closer just made me realize that I’m almost at 500, then, soon I will be a 1000 and then.. I don’t know. Okay, I might me exaggerating because getting to 400 has taken me almost three years. On this rate, it will take me forever to get there but I’m ready for the ride, it’s been so fun so far! As the number got closer, I thought why not celebrate it with something special since I haven’t done it with my other hundred posts. Plus, I had a lot of time with all my school work, deadlines, additional obligations and an up-coming trip… Kidding but I still had a lot of fun putting the alphabet together, had some issues with couple of letters because some didn’t have enough options, some had too many. To be fair, a lot of my favorites were left out but overall, I think it worked out well. It consists of movies, directors, actors and actresses who’s lives revolve around movies.
