Thursday Movie Picks 2020

Thursday Movie Picks: Psychological Thriller

It feels like the only way I can tell the difference between weeks is thanks to Thursday Movie Picks. Days fall into one and the stress of the entire year and a month on top is truly getting to me now. Work is not easy at the moment either which is just an added stress on top. BUT that is not what we are talking about today, we are talking about psychological Thrillers! I for one am not the biggest fan of these movies but when one clicks I love it a lot. Psychological thriller isn’t just something I look out for on purpose though. Anyway, I thought of this theme and I figured I’d pick three movies without even looking at Google for help. So if they don’t really fit the theme… blame the stress. I’m sure it’s at fault somehow.

Looking Back: 10 Movies That Shaped Me in the Last Decade

One of the hardest things for me, even after blogging for close to 10 years, is listing things. Listing movies in a particular order, naming favourite TV shows, putting performances in a certain row – just any kind of list and I’m hyperventilating. So instead I’m deluding the pressure by creating a non-list list. In other words, I’m going to talk about 10 movies that shaped me in the past 10 years. It’s a tribute to the movies that left an impression on me. Not necessarily about listing the best movies nor even the absolute favourites. It’s about 10 movies that changed me or gave me something to think about. Movies that pushed me or challenged me, that shaped me into the person I am today. Movies that, for better or worse, will stay with me forever.

#MettelRaySe7en: My Movie Alphabet Vol 2

While there might be some things that never change, we as people still constantly evolve just like the world around us. Our thoughts, our tastes, our opinions – with every new grain of information something in us could change completely. We might idolise someone one minute and cringe our noses at their stupidity the next, we might find a movie absolutely brilliant, only to fall out of love with it two years later. And it’s fascinating to see and compare our present to the past, which is why I had this crazy idea to compile My Movie Alphabet Vol 2, almost five years after I posted the first one. To see how I’ve changed… and how much I’ve stayed the same.

Thursday Movie Picks: Rivalry

For some reason, even though it’s such a wide theme, I was having a bit of a hard time this week. I thought long and hard what kind of route I wanted to take with this topic, which angle I should have chosen and I ended up with three very similar movies – all feature artistic rivalry. More importantly, all showcase the main protagonist’s struggles not just with being the best but being the greatest version of themselves. In other words, I ended up with three movies that are pretty dark and heavy.

Memorable In Their Discomfort

coffee talk 5

The never ending discussion around Boyhood has finally reached a point where I simply can’t hold it in anymore. And no, this post won’t be on how it doesn’t deserve awards and it won’t be about bashing it because it’s overrated – this Coffee Talk is about another interesting thought that manifested while reading Elina’s take on Whiplash. She wrote: “…if I had to choose between Boyhood or any of the four other films (Whiplash, Foxcatcher, Nightcrawler, Gone Girl), I’d choose Boyhood in a heartbeat. It made me feel nice and fuzzy inside and was a fantastic watch.” By throwing no shade nor criticism towards Elina, I just want to express the fact that I have a completely different understanding of a fantastic watch and it’s receiving completely opposite feelings to nice and fuzzy.

Took me forever but it’s finally here, the list of my Top 15 favorite movies from 2014! As you know, I was struggling with it, I was certain some movies just had to be on it before I finished it. In other words, this list is as full of surprises for me as it might be for you!

Nightcrawler (2014)

After almost five years of blogging about movies and TV shows, you would think I’ll be skilled enough to sit down behind a computer and write a review in a blink of an eye. That is not the case, it’s rarely a case with okay movies and it’s an even rarest occasion for the movies that are brilliant. In my experience, it is simply so much harder to focus your thoughts and emotions with movies that have managed to crawl under your skin because you want to mention everything. Every scene, every moment, ever line delivered with perfection is note worthy… so today, I want to write about everything that is Nightcrawler.
