The month of August has come to an end and that means it is time for Hidden Gems. As some of you might remember, I skipped July and I’m only now getting back on track. I’m also making a small change in the Hidden Gems lineup. August was supposed to be Keira Knightley’s month but I’m going to be honouring Chadwick Boseman in the middle of September instead. It just.. feels like the right thing to do since a talented man was taken too soon from the world. That being said, Emma Stone for Hidden Gems was the hardest challenge to date. And as it happened, it’s also the first time where I did not finish a movie. Going in, I knew I was in for something horrible which is why I pushed it off for months. Actually watching it was much worse than I expected.
We start off the year with an Oscar race that has our hearts beating erratically because this might be Leonardo DiCaprio’s year, and it was. He won, he got that Oscar, he held that Oscar, he took that Oscar with him to show off to his supermodels and polish on his yacht while the sun cast golden streaks of light onto Leo’s face. But as soon as the blockbuster movies started to roll in, as soon as the superheros began to gather, Leo was slowly forgotten.
For the lack of a better word, I am exhausted. Mostly because I worked a pretty long week so I could have an easier second half of the month. But also because I’m constantly thinking how I’m going to send this blog to 2017 and how I will continue with its year 7. The thing is, 7 is my favourite number, and I feel like year 7 for Mettel Ray should be special somehow. The problem is, I have been blogging for six consecutive years and the last couple of years have felt like the blog has been on a standstill. Which is a good thing in a way but I want more, and I think, in the wee hours of last night, I realised what more is, and constructed a game-plan! So, without getting your hopes up too much, stay tuned for 2017, I’m might shake things up…
In the beginning of the year, I shared a two part post highlighting 40 movies of this year that I caught my eye, and now, my list has significantly narrowed. Not only have I lost interest towards some of these movies, but due to my own schedule, I know I can’t manage to see all of them. So, I looked at that list, and added to that list, and finally realized that I need to see these following movies before the end of this year!
The funny thing is, I had planned for a much simpler post. I had a number in mind, 15 and I set out to search for those 15. Then it turned to 30, and now there are 40 movies and this is the second part of that post because to fit 40 into a single post seemed just too extensive (part 1 here). But to clarify, I’m not 100% anticipating to see all 40, I’m simply curious about what’s to come in 2016.
