This year Thursday Movie Picks has a cool theme running through – the seven deadly sins! We look at the well known sins and we recommend movies like always. It’s going to be so much fun to see how people interpret these sins and I’m for one am thrilled for the first one: lust! I’m interpreting lust as cheating and by using my stretched out imagination, I managed to find three Scarlett Johansson movies to recommend this week. In other words, this is a theme within a theme week where ScarJo is the deadly sin of lust.
This month is an overall challenge for me, but this week’s theme has me struggling the most. The thing is, I know some of these picks don’t make sense but I haven’t seen any horrific technology movies. So I more or less went with the idea that scientific breakthroughs can be scary themselves as a possible future outcome. So more or less, I cheated, but I had fun doing it.
With all the Oscar predictions appearing in movie blogs, me not being very skilled at predicting things, and the Oscars being right around the corner, I decided to create my own awards! The bottom line is that I’ll hand out my choices for BESTs of last year’s movies and performances, and though my choices are a bit limited due to the quite small number of 2013 releases I’ve seen but there’s enough to hand out some great Mettel Ray Awards this time of the year.
There’s a certain power to Spike Jonze’s Her that might not be evident at first but give it time, give it a week even and the idea of Her will slowly but surely build up in your mind into something amazing. That is, after Her you start looking at technology in a whole new way and suddenly you realize, having that artificial friendship/relationship might not be a far fetched idea after all.
