Top 10 Movies I Love to Go Back to Every Now & Then

Happy birthday to Mettel Ray! My blog-baby is 10 years old today and I couldn’t describe my emotions even if I tried. It’s definitely a special day! Which is why I decided, due to the special occasion, that instead of just celebrating my blogiversary on May 1st, I’d prolong the celebrations to last for 10 days. That’s right, you’re getting 10 days of Mettel Ray Top 10 lists. It will be all very random, just like me, and the topics will range from movies, shows, music, books etc. First up, probably the hardest list I had to compile because there are a lot of movies I rewatch… but here are 10 movies that I love to go back to every now and then.

Looking Back: 10 Movies That Shaped Me in the Last Decade

One of the hardest things for me, even after blogging for close to 10 years, is listing things. Listing movies in a particular order, naming favourite TV shows, putting performances in a certain row – just any kind of list and I’m hyperventilating. Here comes the most important list of last year – the best movies of 2015.  I should warn you though, this list is a weird one because I had only two 5 coffee cup rated movies I saw last year, and all the rest had been mushed into the 4 cup ratings – giving me a task of ranking  A LOT of movies I liked in an order were many didn’t even make the cut. What that means is that this list is technically not set in stone, except the Top 3, that is not interchangeable!

Brooklyn

When I booked my ticket to see Brooklyn at the Black Night’s Film Festival, I was vaguely aware of what I was going to get myself into. Going in unprepared was probably the right decision because I ended up liking Brooklyn a lot more than I expected. Unexpected was also the level of emotions I got during the movie, and if you would’ve sat next to me, you probably would have heard me mumbling: please don’t, at the very end because I was so afraid of the waterworks.

My Black Nights Film Festival

Image from Culture.

Since 1997, Tallinn’s Black Nights Film Festival, a unique event showing feature films as well as short films, animations and youth films, has grown and developed into an A-class film festival. Taking place in November, when the nights here in Estonia are black and the air is cold, the festival provides warmth and comfort to cinema lovers, friends and enthusiasts all around the world. My own experience with Black Nights has been different each year but there’s always a constant feeling I have towards this film festival: admiration.
