# 28 – Hot Tub Time Machine

Another long title for a very slow movie. I don’t know what I didn’t like about it, was it the storyline in general or the characters individually.  I liked Clark Duke though, I think he was the one holding the group together since he seemed to have the most clearest mind of them all – young and smart!

So the main story begins (not the film) with them traveling back in time with a hot tub (that makes sense already!) thanks to this Russian energy-drink (I say, huh?). So they are all in their teens (to others) but we see them as old men getting beat up and getting it on with young teenagers – disturbing? Not really since the teenagers look like they are getting close to being 30 or something. And that is the weird part, all the guys have a younger version of themselves in the past, but the ladies who appear in the future (and in the past as well) are the same women. How come men get a younger version of themselves but women stay the same? And then they changed the future! What a delight for the old guys..

I have to admit that there were some good jokes: for instance “This didn’t happen in the past, this didn’t happen! What if we made Hitler the president or something!?” (What makes this joke interesting is the fact that it was supposed to be 86 and Hitler died like 41  years before that..) And to think of it, most of the good lines were said by Duke’s character. But to be honest, I don’t care about the movie much. It was a solid comedy with its 2,5 stars out of 5 where the storyline was a disappointment: probably because of the time traveling thing and the fact that they sang “Let’s get it started!” in 86.. and Google became Lougel.

# 27 – She’s Out of My League

Jay Baruchel is having a big year – How to Train Your Dragon and soon to be released The Sorcerer’s Apprentice addition to She’s Out of My League are bringing this geeky guy into the spot light.  I don’t know about The Sorcerer’s Apprentice (except the difficult spelling of the title for me) but How to Train Your Dragon was wonderful and She’s Out of My League wasn’t as bad as I thought. (Doesn’t it seem that the names of the movies are getting longer and longer?)

Any how, after watching Kick Ass, She’s Out of My League seemed quite a good comedy with its awkward jokes and moments. I have to admit, I laughed at times but I wasn’t surprised of the outcome of the movie. It seems that it’s harder and harder to make a movie which ending isn’t clear at the beginning (The Ghost Writer had that actually!).And in addition I think that the comedy is so hard to write to appeal to the more sophisticated crowd – I for one have had enough of the silly penis jokes and premature ejaculations. I mean, how many times can that be funny?

Jay’s characters mom was that mom from That 70’s Show and I was so thrilled when I first saw her and that was about it. I think my expectations of her character were bigger and that disappointed me a little. The storyline itself was quite common: guy meets girl, guy falls in love with girl, then messes it up, then they get back together, then brake-up and in the end make out! And then there are the crazy friends who are very good at giving advice (at least they themselves think that) and helping out with the laughs. What actually made me like the movie, was the fact that the main girl character was treated well. She had some punch lines too and she didn’t fall or embarrass herself in any way, so that was good – we don’t need another Good Luck Chuck moment or There’s Something About Mary…

So all of that considered, I’d give the comedy 3 stars out of 5 – and I think it has something to do with the “I think I have already seen that” efect that the it had, that a lot of comedies have francly.

# 26 – Kick Ass

I had some spare time in my not so busy life to watch some of the newest movies. Kick Ass was the first comedy that I watched cause somebody suggested it to me. Well, the suggestion was valid but the movie was not my 5 star action-comedy-superhero movie I prefer. (I still think Spiderman is the best, or maybe it’s my (L) for James Franco.)

It was all good and I even thought, there it is, a great movie! But then, Hitgirl appeared and the magical superhero powers that were supposed to be human.. (well not magic but she was 11!) and it all went down hill from there. I’m trying to remember my favorite part in the movie, but since I have watched so many new movies in these couple of days, I can’t even remember Kick Ass.

I think the movie could’ve used a better script, the idea of a normal human superhero is actually cool and can be awesome. A 11 year old being pushed to kill people by his father (Nicolas Cage, I’m sorry, I don’t really like you anymore) who is dressed like a bad version of a batman.. was bad. Big Daddy? Seriously.. I wouldn’t let my daughter call her father Big Daddy.. that just sounds wrong in so many ways.

And the main character, Kick Ass.. he had some cool friends and I liked them more than the main characters, cause they weren’t over written. So basically I give it 2 stars for the story and 0,5 stars for an effort.. But judding it is hard, because I watched some other comedies this week and they all seemed better than this but not good enough, so Kick Ass lost some stars because of She’s Out of My League, Hot Tub Time Machine and I Love You Phillip Morris  (writing something about them later this evening or tomorrow.)

And now I’m actually re-watshing Spiderman’s first movie because Kick Ass left me wanting some real superhero to kick some real bad-ass ass! Stay tuned !

# 25 – Forrest Gump

You don’t know jet, but I love Forrest Gump! I’ve seen the movie probably about 6 or 7 times and I just finished watching it again – still good, still emotional, still close to my heart, even after all these years.

I love how the story comes together, all those things that really happened all because of this guy, who has a southern accent and an IQ of 75. All those lines that have been with me all those years, for example “My momma always said, life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you gonna get!” just came rushing back when I started watching the movie. I remembered how emotional it was, when Forrest asked Jenny if little Forrest was smart or like him – just broke my heart. And the movie is wise, because it shows that no matter what, you can always become something great, even if the rest of the world tells you that you are stupid!

My friend told me that she hates Jenny, and watching the movie from that point of view made me hate her too, a little. She was good for Forrest, she didn’t treat him bad but she made a lot of mistakes in her own life that kind of led her to hurt Forrest. Luckily he didn’t understand it, the pain and heartbreak, he just had such a big heart.

Tom Hanks, who is in my heart for many roles in movies that I call classics, deserved that Oscar. And Gary, he was a true friend. Only thing is, how the hell did they filmed him without the legs? A question that has hovered over my head for so many times. Were they able to do that with computer back in 1994? watching Buffys visual effects in that time made me think that it wasn’t possible because it seems so true and life-like, that considering that Gary cut off his legs for that role makes more sense than computers.

Hanks got an AFI lifetime award in 2002 and I truly believe he was forth it and I secretly like to think that that was mostly because he is Forrest Gump – this amazing guy who saw more of the wolrd (and met more presidents) than others will ever see.

# 24 – Supernatural !

I finally had the time (and courage) to watch Supernatural Season 5 two final episodes – and even though I am a fan, A BIG ONE!.. I feel like it should have ended.
I know that Eric Kripke, the creator of the show and probably the God in his spare time, is leaving the show (not really, but is leaving the season 6 to be carried by Sera Gamble) to do some other greater things – two sisters fighting evil? And that scares me a little bit because it means changes and they are never good when it comes to big hit shows (One Tree Hill big jump to the future for example)! But let us hope that season 6 won’t disappoint because it will be the last and I don’t want it to not end with a bang! A bang that could of happened at the end of season 5 if God hadn’t made a mess …

Season 5 was exciting and here comes the spoiler part – all those angels that died, all those demons, all those characters – and in the end, Castiel was still standing, Bobby was STANDING, Dean was still standing and Sam was still standing under a street-light looking at Dean creepily! So what changed? Lucifer got out, made some chaos, there was some drama, Winchesters got stuck in Tv-land, God went and bought himself a vacation (and was probably writing the whole time !) and the 4 horsemen all died or lost  their rings/power or what ever (except death – can death die?) – and in the end, nothing changed! Well okay, Dean still knows that Sam is dead but we know it’s not true – so for what was all that for? The end of the world came for 22 episodes and NOTHING happened! Oh well, people died, angels died and demons died, but that had happened before.. I was used to that. And now I have to get used to the fact that nothing has changed and Lucifer is gone and God has changed his vacation plans and Eric Kripke is leaving – this is going to be a LONG summer, because I can’t wait to see what they’ll think of next.. Winchesters beat Lucifer.. who’s next?

#23 – Glee has my (L)

The latest episodes of Glee I have watched with awe – Madonna episode to the Funk episode last night – I’m taking a bow to Ryan, Brad and Ian!

What is so great about the show are the characters – Sue Silvester is like the female version of dr House in tracksuits drinking shakes instead of popping pills. Last nights episode showed Sue’s human side once again, with Sue writing in her diary “Something strange happened yesterday. I felt something below the neck” just seemed so funny that I cracked a smile. And it wasn’t the only time, I even laughed out loud and I have realized that I do that a lot with Glee. It has this smart humor that isn’t cheesy – Kurt going “Rachel is one of us, we are the ones who get to humiliate her!” with a serious face just made my day. Too bad I can’t sing or else I’d be starting my own glee club – although I don’t know how popular it would be in Estonia.

By the way, did you noticed that Rachel didn’t have a solo? Puck, Finn and Quinn sang most of the songs in this episode and Rachel got egged – are the writers trying to bring down the Rachel ego since there are rumors that Lea Michele is becoming a diva? Guess it will remain a mystery but until then I love to see more Puck – although I can’t imagine the show without Kurt also and if I think about it, all the characters have kind of .. stole my heart.

#22 – Good movie alert

Despite my massive amount of school work I have managed to keep myself updated with the new movie trailers. This morning I actually wanted to write about the newest addition to the Apple Movie Trailer site – Morning Glory. In addition to a great cast (Rachel McAdams, Diane Keaton, Harrison Ford and Jeff Goldblum) there is the woman who wrote The Devil Wears Prada script (Aline B. McKenna – who also wrote 27 Dresses) and the director of Nothing Hill (Roger Michell)  – so I’m thinking this will be good!

I haven’t seen Harrison Ford in a long time, probably because I haven’t had the chance to watch movies lately, but I think he’ll be great. It seems a little like Alec Baldwin in It’s Complicated, an old charmer and possibly Diane Keaton characters romantic intrest? Diane who has been absent for 2 years (according to IMDb the latest movie was Mad Money in 2008) is probably my second favorite classic Hollywodo lady next to Maryl Streep. The first thing that comes to mind is her part in Because I Said So where she plays this crazy careing mother type – absolutely wonderful. And Rachel, god, I remember Notebook.. and The Ghost Writer! – so I think she has had some great roles and I think this is going to be another check on her list.

So now I have to wait until November which is so unfair!

# 21 – Grey’s Anatomy

Season 6 finale was, was.. I have no words! It began with Meredith’s good news (that ended up being bad) and then a shooter, Mr. Clark who lost his wife some episodes back and made another appearance in the previous episode. He was cruel, he shot Reed just because she was rude to him, and she died in seconds. Karev got shot the same time, but managed to crawl to the elevator were he was found by Sloan and little Grey – Karev survived, thank god!

Then there were some other, un-significant deaths and then, Percy gets shot (the guy from Mercy who loved Reed who was also from Mercy) and he has a longer suffering where Bailey tried to save him with the help of a patient Mary (played by Mandy Moore) – but eventually he died not even knowing that Reed was long gone.

And then there was this whole Derek got shot Yang had to operate on him while Clark held a gun to her face and then Owen came to rescue, and how the hell did Clark get into the OR and how did he know where Derek was or even where the OR was? Anyway, Derek lived thanks to my fav new guy, Avery (played by the very hot Jesse Williams) saved the day! By the way, didn’t he and Yang kiss? I mean, that might still happen because Owen hasn’t decided who he loves. Well he did ran after Yang but if the other one would have been in the hospital, he would’ve ran after her. So who wants Yang and Avery to hook up? I do, I do!! And I want little Grey to get back together with Sloan, I mean she broke his thing (its fixed now) and he still wants to be her husband, how sweet is that!?

Anyway, the whole 2 hour episode was exiting, two bigger casualties, with Torres and Arizona getting back together (making babies next season?) and at the end.. Meredith ends up not pregnant which for me was sad but I still can’t get over the fact that I shed a tear for Percy, didn’t even like the guy until he got shot and died in Baileys arms.

Hopefully the wait for the next season premier isn’t too hard on me, cause I’m kind of waiting to see what is going to happen next.. A new romance, a new doctor maybe (since Izzie left!) or … somebodies half-borther turns up or smth? Percy has a twin brother and he comes there? Well, one thing is sure, it’s gonna be wild!

# 20 – You Again

Since I haven’t posted for a while I decided to do a short post on the newest trailer i saw just minutes ago: You Again. It opens in 24th September and while I’m not really excited about the plot (high-school isn’t over when Marni and her mom meet the two women that made their school years horrible) I am thrilled about the list of amazing actresses that are i it.

Starting with the sweet girl from Veronica Mars and Heroes, Kristen Bell as Marni and Jamie Lee Curtis as her mom. I just have to say, I love Jamie Lee! I like how she isn’t trying to hide her gray hair, because she still looks great (she’s like the female version of Stevie Martin who has worne his gray hair for a long time). There is also Sigourney Weaver and teh beloved Betty White! There is also Odette Yustman, (who I can’t place anywhere in my mind but who apparently was in October Road and is dating Dave Annabel), playing the “enemy” of Marni. While this list looks awesome and they probably will do an awesome job playing their roles (all of them), I’m still not sure if this movie will stay on the classic comedy slot or will it turn out to be an over the top cheezie comedy – that happens more than you think. Even if there are such icons as White, Curtis and Weaver – they will rock it, no doubt – the story itself stands seperately and how that will turn out?, well just have to wait and see..

# 19 – House MD

Last night I watched the last episode of the season, well.. what the hell happened? I am happy for House for sure, finally he gets some(!), but the ending for me was so cut off from the rest of the episode that it seemed entirely a new show. The situation with them two hasn’t been on the edge like for instance with Booth and Bones so I guess the writers just wanted to write them together but the way they did it..

Cuddy: “I love you. I don’t want to, but I do.” – Now she tells him!? She got engaged just last night and then she decides to tell House that, hey, I love you! Well, okay, I can live with that – maybe.

House has always been this depressed mad man who says what ever comes to his mind, what now? He becomes a happy familyman (Cuddy has a kid!) and starts to smile and be nice to people? God, I hope love doesn’t brake  House !
