Picking up a highly praised book always adds some pressure. And now, as I’ve picked up American Gods, I feel like that pressure is starting to get to me. But then again, it feels like it doesn’t matter.

AMERICAN GODS

By Neil Gaiman

Days before his release from prison, Shadow’s wife, Laura, dies in a mysterious car crash. Numbly, he makes his way back home. On the plane, he encounters the enigmatic Mr Wednesday, who claims to be a refugee from a distant war, a former god and the king of America.

Together they embark on a profoundly strange journey across the heart of the USA, whilst all around them a storm of preternatural and epic proportions threatens to break.

Scary, gripping and deeply unsettling, American Gods takes a long, hard look into the soul of America. You’ll be surprised by what – and who – it finds there…

SOON TO BE ON TV

Part of the reason I picked up American Gods (in addition to peer-pressure) was the fact that it is going to be a TV-series! It is set to premier in 2017, and the names behind the show are promising. Except maybe Michael Green who brought us Green Lantern, but hey, we all make mistakes.

Have you read American Gods yet? And how excited are you about it being turned into a TV-show?

  • I read and thoroughly enjoyed American Gods. I am really looking forward to seeing how the series goes, especially because Bryan Fuller is attached to it, and I loved what he did with Hannibal. I do hope you enjoy the book!

    • I hope it turns out great as well. While reading it, I’m already sort of playing the visuals around in my head, and wondering, how well the series is going to go together with my imagination.

  • I started reading the book in March and I adore it – the mix of road trip and folklore and mythology is so cool, atmospheric and fascinating. I’m super psyched for the show because you just know with Fuller behind it it will look spectacular and IAN MCSHANE!!! I’m not crazy about Browning, who is insanely bland, as Laura. And I hope I get to finish the book soon, work is crazy and I only have the time to read in the office since I’m always busy at home

    • I am almost half way through and I like it as well. I think for me, it will have much more appeal as a show version, in terms of the visuals, dark, mysterious, I already know I will love it! And I agree!!! I saw Browning as his wife and I was like NO, that is not at all what I was thinking, plus, she is definitely too young to be his wife.. I mean, god, Nina Dobrev will be a better choice or something.
