With the sudden passing of Chadwick Boseman I decided to dedicate Hidden Gems September to him. Honouring his movies, some of them he made while battling cancer, because that’s literally all I can do. There are no words to describe the sadness I felt while watching this months’ movies. It was… for a lack of a better word – heartbreaking.
The month of August has come to an end and that means it is time for Hidden Gems. As some of you might remember, I skipped July and I’m only now getting back on track. I’m also making a small change in the Hidden Gems lineup. August was supposed to be Keira Knightley’s month but I’m going to be honouring Chadwick Boseman in the middle of September instead. It just.. feels like the right thing to do since a talented man was taken too soon from the world. That being said, Emma Stone for Hidden Gems was the hardest challenge to date. And as it happened, it’s also the first time where I did not finish a movie. Going in, I knew I was in for something horrible which is why I pushed it off for months. Actually watching it was much worse than I expected.
Part of me thought I had one more day of June but turns out that was not correct so here we are. On the last day of June, discussing three Sam Rockwell movies and trying to find a hidden gem. This month was strange to say at least. Rockwell has had a lot of smaller roles and I happened to see two of them. Needless to say, I feel like I didn’t get my Rockwell fix at all.
There were a few hours left of May when I sat down to write this. Not because I didn’t want to, or that I kept putting it off… I was simply very busy and this month had a very crazy start. But I didn’t want to miss the deadline so here I am. If this sounds coherent or has some typos, it’s because I didn’t have time to proof read it. Anyway, it’s the fifth Hidden Gem of 2020. Almost half way through the year and it has not gone well so far. Can Brad Pitt come in and save the day?
Here we are, wrapping up another month and what a weird little month it has been. Not just because I have spent the entire month indoors basically but because I’ve seen the movies I’ve seen. More precisely I saw three Nicole Kidman movies and I had a weird ride with them all. One of these movies was so weird and so wild that I actually thought I had consumed some sort of drug. Anyway, that being said, I’m excited to bring you the fourth Hidden Gems of 2020. And a very strange movie.
Third month of 2020 has been crazy, to say at least but I’m not gonna let the world (read: this damn virus) bring me down! So today, as planned, I’m continuing with the Hidden Gems challenge. This month I watched three Jake Gyllenhaal movies and honestly… While everything else has been shit, this month was the best Hidden Gems month so far. Will it mean picking my first actual hidden gem? Well, you’ll find out soon.
The movie challenge Hidden Gems continues with Joseph Gordon-Levitt (JGL). An actor who’s movies brought me joy for many years. But an actor who has recently been in less movies and well, movies that I have little to no interest towards. Despite of this, JGL is still one of my favourites and he will probably remain so for many years. Yet tackling JGL’s filmography was actually a bit difficult. I had to change one of my initial random picks because I didn’t find it. But it worked out for the best, kind of…
The movie challenge Hidden Gems starts off with Anne Hathaway. An actress who’s work I’ve enjoyed over the years but who has been in movies I’ve not liked either. She had a controversial vibe surrounding her during her Oscar campaign. Partly because there was just too much of her and apparently Anne Hathaway in small dozes is better. Also her Oscar hosting gig really didn’t do her any favours. Anyway, for this month I watched three of her movies I hadn’t seen before and two of them were disasters. As expected, Hidden Gems is basically a challenge where I torture myself.
After failing miserably with the Blindspot series this year, I decided to create my own version of catching up. Because despite being quite bad with challenges I do love to take them on. So here’s one I created for myself that I hope not to fail – Hidden Gems.
